Sometimes they want to increase their chances for a boy or a girl for medical or personal reasons. There may be a genetic pre-deposition to certain illnesses or the family may be lopsided with girls or boys. They would like to have their family balanced and are willing to pursue whatever means are possible. The Shettles Method claims to increase a couples chances of ending up with their child of choice. It’s based on the concept that gender is determined according to when intercourse occurs. The theory is that ovulation is the key factor in baby’s gender selection. Dr. Landrum Shettles theorizes that the X female chromosome carrying sperm lives longer than sperm carrying the Y male chromosome. He advocates that intercourse should occur two to three days before ovulation for a girl and immediately prior to ovulation for a boy. When you conceive a child, the odds of having either a boy or a girl are 50-50. The Shettles Method has not been scientifically proven to support its theory that the timing of intercourse is the key factor in natural gender selection. It is, however, very popular and many couples have reported that they indeed conceived their child of choice using the method. It is a natural way for a couple to at least think they are influencing their child’s sex on the day of conception. To get a boy, Shettles recommends that intercourse occur as close to ovulation as possible, that a couple refrain from having sex for four to five days prior to ovulation, that penetration during intercourse is deep, that the male partner avoids wearing tight-fitting clothes, and that the female partner has an orgasm at the same time as the male. Furthermore, Shettle recommends that the following steps be followed if a girl is desired: • Have intercourse two to three days prior to ovulation The Shettles method is one fun way for you to predict and play a role in your baby’s gender selection.
